20 Horror Movie Scenes That Make Absolutely No Sense
15. A Quiet Place - Where To Even Begin?
Plot: A family tries to survive in a post-apocalyptic Earth overrun by creatures that hunt via sound.
A Quiet Place is a decent monster movie, even if it was criminally overpraised at the time of its release, but none of it really makes any sense at all. Many wondered about Lee (John Krasinski) and Evelyn (Emily Blunt) choosing to have another child during the apocalypse (childbirth is pretty noisy, you know!), but really, that was just the tip of the iceberg.
For starters, the whole set-up of the story is unconvincing. It's not believable that the creatures were able to overrun the entire world, and when a weakness is discovered by the family at the end of the first movie - high-pitched noises can cause the aliens' armour to open up, allowing them to be killed more easily - it seems strange that the world's militaries couldn't figure something similar out.
There are many, many other problems, too. The power of the aliens' hearing seems to change from scene to scene, depending on how convenient it is for the plot, and there's also the question of how the family was able to lay the film's iconic sand path. That would've made plenty of noise, too.
The plot holes continued in the second film, with the characters making many inexplicable decisions. These movies are very well-directed and have a fantastic cast, but they sure as hell aren't clever or particularly well-written for that matter.
