20 Horror Movies So Good You Overlook Huge Flaws

John Carpenter's The Thing is an absurdly accomplished horror film that grabs you by the throat from the word 'Go'. From the very beginning, pretty much every single scene piles on the paranoia, the suspense, and the icy drip, drip, drip of dread, so much so that it was always going to be a Herculean task to maintain that flawless sense of escalation all the way to the end.

And sure enough, even something as great as this eventually falters a little. Most of it is brilliant, but the very final showdown between protagonist R.J. MacReady (Kurt Russell) and the titular alien shapeshifter is way too short. Essentially, the Thing pops up through the floorboards, MacReady tosses a stick of dynamite at it, and that's basically all there is. 

It's possible that there might be a sense of anticlimax for some, especially on their first viewing, yet such is the strength of the rest of the movie that this disappointing moment is easy to overlook, especially as it's followed up immediately by The Thing's fantastic and legendary cliffhanger ending.
