20 Horror Movies That Fall Apart In The Final Act
11. It Chapter Two
The 1990 TV miniseries adaptation of It has often been criticized for its lacklustre finale, so fans hoped that 2019's It Chapter Two would rectify that mistake. They were all disappointed, for history repeated itself.
In the original novel, the defeat of It revolves around a complicated psychological ritual that would've been difficult to replicate on-screen, so it was always going to be a hard thing to adapt. Having said that... surely they could've come up with something better than this? Surely?
In the end, this climax amounted to a stupendously silly CGI slop-fest that felt more like an F-tier MCU final battle than anything else, while the bathos and garbage special effects that plague the rest of this sequel are also very much in evidence. Eventually, the characters defeat Pennywise by telling him they're not scared of him, and this causes him to lose all his power. Why didn't they do this earlier? Have none of Pennywise's victims ever said something like that before? It made no sense.
This had been a rocky picture from the off, yet it was in the final act that it finally confirmed itself as one of the most disappointing horror sequels ever made. The closing scenes with the adult members of the Loser's Club are touching, sure, but that's not enough to make this one any less of a stinker.
