13 Sins, a remake of the Thai horror comedy 13 Beloved, starts out as a solid enough Death Game horror, yet it goes too far by the end and veers into overly icky territory that contrasts excessively with the rest of the story.

In this one, salesman Elliott (Mark Webber) loses his job and finds himself in dire financial straits. He then receives a phone call saying that, to kill a fly, he'll get $1,000. He does so and is then told to eat the fly, thus earning him even more money. The caller then gives him a challenge: complete 11 more tasks, and he'll receive a huge sum of money. If he fails to complete any, interferes in the game, or reveals the game to the authorities, he forfeits it all.

And so, Elliott is forced to complete a series of increasingly horrid challenges, and while these stay on just the right side of uncomfortable for much of the story, it eventually goes overboard. The last challenge is to kill a family member, and it's revealed that Michael (Devon Graye), Elliott's mentally challenged brother, is also competing in the game and tries to kill his own brother, forcing Elliott to kill Michael in self-defence.

This was all just far too uncomfortable, and much like Elliott when he ate that fly, audience members will have a nasty taste in their mouth when 13 Sins finally concludes.
