Jeff Nichols is one of the most talented filmmakers of his generation, so it's been disheartening to hear that the Take Shelter and Mud director has struggled as of late to get potential projects funded.

This may explain why Nichols has turned towards the more commercial horror genre in recent years, even being originally hired to write and direct A Quiet Place: Day One before dropping out.

Nichols hasn't walked away from horror, though, as back in October it was confirmed that his next movie will indeed be a Southern Gothic horror film called King Snake.

Margaret Qualley and Drew Starkey will star as a young couple who inherit a haunted farm in rural Arkansas, while Nichols' regular collaborator Michael Shannon will also co-star in an undisclosed role.

This certainly sounds like a fascinating fit for Nichols, to bring his distinct, Southern fried brand of filmmaking to the horror realm, and with such a promising cast already.
