No horror film on this list has been in the works longer than The Night of the Witch, the idea for which was first dreamt up way back in 1969 by Marvel legend Stan Lee and The Toxic Avenger filmmaker Lloyd Kaufman.

The story for Night of the Witch revolves around a Mexican-American woman who is suspected of witchcraft on the bicentennial of a historic witch trial.

Lee and Kaufman actually got far enough in developing the project to finish a first draft of the script in 1971, but the duo struggled to get it made for undisclosed reasons - most likely financial.

However, more than 50 years later the project has been revived and will now be helmed by indie filmmaker Joe Manco, who co-wrote a new version of the script with Kaufman.

This new draft will attempt to retain the terror of the original idea while updating it for modern sensibilities, and considering the horrifying state of immigration in the United States at present, the social commentary basically writes itself.

Shooting is expected to take place in Texas sometime in 2026.
