8. The Limp Finale - The Conjuring: Last Rites
Considering that The Conjuring: Last Rites was presented as the conclusion of Ed and Lorraine Warren's (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) story, it was a reasonable assumption that they would bow out with one hell of an epic final supernatural set-piece.
But ultimately the sequel wraps up with an utterly underwhelming, mostly lifeless sequence in which the Warrens do battle with a... possessed antique mirror.
Perhaps in the hands of original franchise filmmaker James Wan this could've achieved the bonkers camp necessary, but as it stands, Last Rites' climactic duel with a spinning mirror is the least creative and exciting climax of the entire franchise.
While you could argue that a more pared down finale is appropriate given that Last Rites is often more of a family drama than a horror film, pretty much everyone buying a ticket for a Conjuring movie wants to see some wildly over-the-top supernatural hooey before the end credits hit.
In that regard Last Rites just didn't deliver the goods, sadly.
