20 Recent Horror Movies That Made ONE Big Mistake
1. That Cliffhanger Ending - Hell House LLC: Lineage
Hell House LLC: Lineage was sold to fans as the fifth and purportedly final entry into the found footage franchise, and though many took umbrage with the decision to close the series out by ditching the found footage style altogether, that wasn't quite the worst sin the sequel committed.
Despite bringing the protagonist of the third film, Vanessa Shepard (Elizabeth Vermilyea), back into the fold as she attempts to end the curse linked to both the Abaddon Hotel and the Carmichael Manor, the movie ends with an infuriating cliffhanger that leaves fans hanging in limbo.
In the final scene of the film, Vanessa learns that her twin brother Mitchell, who she believed to have perished in childbirth, is actually still alive, before we abruptly cut to the end credits.
Unsurprisingly the film was panned by both critics and fans alike, many frustrated that the producers sold it as a concrete finale to the Hell House franchise, only to resolve almost nothing and leave so much up in the air.
The backlash has been toxic enough that there's frankly no guarantee many fans will bother showing up for any potential sequels or spin-offs. That's how you kill a franchise, folks.
