1. The Totally Unnecessary Plot Twist - Killer Whale

On the face of it, Killer Whale seemed like a total meat-and-potatoes creature feature set to deliver the basic goods and nothing else.

But oddly, the film saddles itself with an utterly absurd, laughable late-stage plot twist that bogs the entire endeavour down while detracting from the killer whale shenanigans everyone actually paid money to see.

Early on, we learn that protagonist Maddie (Virginia Gardner) is recovering from being caught in the middle of an armed robbery - an incident which killed her friend and left her with hearing loss.

But in the third act, Maddie's friend Trish (Mel Jarnson), who she's trapped with on a remote lagoon while fending off said whale, reveals that she orchestrated the aforementioned robbery to pay her student debts.

It's just an outrageously unnecessary rug-pull for a film called Killer Whale, almost as though the filmmakers were struggling to reach a feature length runtime and so decided to inject this utterly ridiculous conflict into the mix totally out of nowhere.
