18. All The Jokes About The Series' Chaotic Production
Scream 3 of course covers the production of the film-within-a-film Stab 3, and so screenwriter Ehren Kruger couldn't resist the opportunity to take some shots at the Scream series' own tendency for behind-the-scenes chaos.
Early in the film, Sarah Darling (Jenny McCarthy) complains to Stab 3 director Roman (Scott Foley) about the script seemingly getting another rewrite, saying to him, "Has there been another goddam rewrite? How the f**k are we supposed to learn our lines when there's a new script every 15 minutes?"
Later on, Detective Kincaid (Patrick Dempsey) mentions that there are three different versions of the film's script in order to keep spoilers off the Internet.
This is all referring to the mayhem of Scream 2's production, where after the script leaked online, the film was heavily rewritten at the same time that it was being shot, as proved to be a frustrating experience for the cast and crew alike.
