20 Upcoming Horror Movies That Made PERFECT Casting Choices

5. Michael Shannon - King Snake

King Snake is the latest movie from the brilliant Take Shelter and Mud filmmaker Jeff Nichols, and will mark the director's first foray into horror, with a Southern-fried supernatural horror romp centered around a young couple (Margaret Qualley and Drew Starkey) who encounter issues after inheriting a farm in rural Arkansas.

Michael Shannon has also been announced as part of the cast alongside Qualley and Starkey, and though we don't officially know who Shannon is playing yet, it seems incredibly likely that he's playing the film's central antagonist.

And considering Shannon's singular brand of intensity, why the heck wouldn't he be? His prior collaborations with Nichols - especially Take Shelter - have borne incredible fruit, so we'll expect much the same here.

Above all else, we don't see Shannon work enough in the horror genre, so it'll be an absolute treat for him to flex his ginormous acting muscles in a genre that plays so well to his sense of theatricality.
