20 Worst Endings In Recent Horror Movies

6. The Platform 2

The Hand That Rocks the Cradle 2025
Netflix

Netflix's surprise hit The Platform really didn't need a sequel, but it was such a storming ratings hit that of course it was always going to happen.

The bulk of the movie is... fine - a watchable if unasked-for sequel that falls apart completely at the end with a total head-scratcher of a climax.

Near the end of the movie, we learn that The Platform 2 is actually a secret prequel set before the events of the first, when protagonist Perempuán (Milena Smit) becomes cellmates with one of the original film's main characters, Trimagasi (Zorion Eguileor).

A gory battle ensues between the two main factions in the prison, after which Perempuán fakes her own death and is therefore able to reache the Pit - the bottom level of the prison.

Here Perempuán finds a young boy and decides to use the platform to send him back up to safety at the apparent sacrifice of her own life, before she's reunited with her boyfriend Goreng (Iván Massagué), the protagonist of the first film.

Ultimately the final 10 minutes-or-so of The Platform 2 are so vaguely defined and confusing that they raise far more questions than answers, and going by the online chatter it generated far more frustration than intrigue among viewers.

What's real? What's symbolic? And does anyone actually care enough at this point to tune in for the probably-inevitable third film?
