20 Worst Endings In Recent Horror Movies

7. The Ritual

The Ritual is pretty much the exact opposite of what an exorcism movie starring Al Pacino and Dan Stevens should be.

Instead of giving Pacino the floor to deliver a gloriously scenery-chewing performance as German-American priest Theophilus Riesinger, this snoozy horror romp is a low-energy bore that dares to take itself dead seriously.

But every exorcism movie at least serves up an over-the-top climax in which the victim is finally freed from their demonic possession, right?

Well, the afflicted young woman, Emma (Abigail Cowen), indeed has the demons driven out of her, but because director David Midell decided to shoot the entire movie like an episode of The Office, complete with shaky cam and unintentionally comedic snap zooms, it's impossible to take any of it seriously.

Emma is saved and then the film abruptly ends, cutting to a few minutes' worth of title cards to sew up the fates of the central characters, ensuring this already wretched horror flick peaces out on a complete shoulder shrug.
