4. I Know What You Did Last Summer
The new I Know What You Did Last Summer clearly wanted to be a legacy sequel in the vein of Halloween 2018 or Scream 2022, but beyond simply not being very good, it hammered the final nail in its own coffin with that outrageous final twist.
The new killer terrorising Southport is revealed to be Stevie (Sarah Pidgeon), who did so in revenge for the death of her lover Sam a year prior.
Stevie is shot by Ray (Freddie Prinze. Jr) and that's seemingly the end of the matter, only for Ray to then reveal that he was Stevie's secret accomplice.
More to the point, Ray has been driven insane by Southport's efforts to cover up the original 1997 killings in order to gentrify the town, prompting him to pick up a hook to ensure Southport never forgets its bloody legacy that ruined Ray's life.
Ray then tries to kill fellow legacy hero Julie (Jennifer Love Hewitt), only for Ava (Chase Sui Wonders) to make the save by shooting him dead with a speargun.
This all feels like a horrible fanfic that someone decided to actually shoot for some reason - making Ray a villain is a bold choice, but not one that really makes a whole lot of sense.
If you ever wondered why the Scream franchise never pulled the trigger on making one of its OG heroes a surprise Ghostface, this is why - it's incredibly tough to convincingly pull off and risks pissing off a huge swath of the fanbase.
