1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Iron Maiden Album
2. The Man Of Sorrows - The Book Of Souls
If you thought that 'The Final Frontier' was a long album, it actually falls a whole 16 minutes short of its successor, 'The Book of Souls'. You could equate this to just the existence of 'Empire of the Clouds', but the entire album is filled with long tracks, five of which clock in at over seven minutes.
As Iron Maiden's first double feature album, and running at 90-plus minutes, 'The Book of Souls' like 'The Final Frontier' became susceptible to fans checking out before the masterpiece at the end. Unfortunately, this has meant that many overlook 'The Man of Sorrows'.
When compared against Dickinson's 18-minute epic, or the likes of 'Death of Glory' and 'Tears of a Clown', it is one of the weakest on the second disc, but that doesn't mean it should be discounted entirely, even in spite of its much slower tempo.
Dave Murray's only writing credit on the band's 16th studio album is still a dynamic and intricate track, and even at 6-and-a-half minutes is one of the shorter entries on the release. Unusually, this may actually work in its favour, considering just how long the album is overall.
