1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Iron Maiden Album

16. Genghis Khan - Killers

Another category rarely tapped into by Iron Maiden over the years, at least since their opening two albums, is the instrumental song. There are times a track can be so well put together, and so compelling based on the music alone, there is no real need for any lyrics.

On Iron Maiden's second album there are two instrumental songs. As the opening track of 'Killers', 'The Ides of March' is often the better remembered of the two, but 'Genghis Khan' should not be forgotten.

Whereas 'Strange World' the previous year boasted almost none of the Iron Maiden trademarks, 'Genghis Khan' celebrates almost all of them. From the powerful, full-speed intro, to the trademark gallop, and a mind-numbing time change that makes the intro seem almost on a par with the ballad from 'Iron Maiden', there is so much to love condensed into just three minutes.

With no lyrics to hear, it's not surprising that this track was kept so short, but this writer certainly wouldn't have been opposed to a few more minutes of this.
