1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Iron Maiden Album

13. Flash Of The Blade - Powerslave

Much like 'Piece of Mind', Iron Maiden's fifth studio album even all these years later is halfway made up of some of the best tracks the band has ever produced. 'Aces High', '2 Minutes to Midnight', 'Powerslave', and 'Rime of the Ancient Mariner' would leave almost any other Maiden song overlooked.

In between these four are four more tracks that are highlighted by 'Flash of the Blade', a heavy-hitting, pacy outing that will leave you breathless by the time it's over. From the first guitar riff you can tell that this will get the blood pumping and the adrenaline going. It's actually quite incredible that it has been omitted from the band's live shows for all this time.

The lyrics tell the story of a young boy in medieval times, hungry for glory with a sword in his hand, eventually having to grow up early, and go on to avenge the misfortunes that befell his family.

Written by Dickinson, it is impossible not to join in with the singer for the anthemic chorus, despite knowing that you will never be able to reach what the air raid siren is able to achieve. His harmonies with himself truly show off how impressive the singer is, and it's a shame this hasn't been shown off more over the years.
