1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Iron Maiden Album
11. Infinite Dreams - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
In 1988, Iron Maiden took what they created with 'Somewhere in Time', leaned into the change in direction and honed the new style to produce one of their most iconic and standout albums of all time. There isn't a bad song to be found, but as always there are some that don't quite get the recognition they deserve.
Even on an outing so incredibly different to the traditional Iron Maiden sound, 'Infinite Dreams' manages to be unique in its own right.
Much slower, softer, and almost peaceful for the most part, the track does eventually kick up to the more familiar Maiden tempo, but not before opening the listener's eyes to the power of Bruce's voice with no place to hide, and some of the most profound and thought-provoking lyrics in the band's back catalogue.
'Fear of the Dark' was famously written by Steve Harris about his childhood nyctophobia, while this track was inspired by the nightmares he has suffered when writing an album. It may feel like a strange choice to say this song is overlooked, as it was released as a single back in 1989, but even taking this into account, 'Infinite Dreams' deserves to be lauded as a classic Maiden track.
