1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Iron Maiden Album

10. The Assassin - No Prayer For The Dying

Even taking into consideration the dark Blaze Bayley led days that no one likes to take into consideration, 'No Prayer for the Dying' is arguably Iron Maiden's weakest ever album. This leads to a difficult question with regards to overlooked tracks.

Are none of them overlooked because they are all that uninspired, or are some of them actually decent and lumped in under the guise of a bad album? 'Bring Your Daughter... to the Slaughter' is the only track on the album that has achieved widespread popularity, and while the rest have faded into obscurity, there is one other that at least deserves a listen.

Telling the story from the point of view of a contract killer, the lyrics aren't exactly deep or profound, but at least 'The Assassin' offers something different to the generic, and almost lazy sound of the rest of the album. There is more creativity in the music than the likes of 'Tailgunner' and 'Holy Smoke'.

It's easy to see why Adrian Smith left the band with their new direction in the pre-production stage of this album, and while 'The Assassin' is arguably the worst song on this list, it is still better than the majority of the underwhelming 1990 release.
