1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Pink Floyd Album

6. Echoes - Meddle

Hard to really describe Echoes as “hidden”, unless you don’t know how to turn over a record, with the track taking up the entire second side of the original vinyl.

That being said, while Meddle is beloved by Floyd fans and highly respected by critics, it isn’t quite as iconic an album as Dark Side Of The Moon or The Wall. Plus at twenty three minutes long Echoes isn’t exactly made for radio. There will be many casual listeners who have never listened to to this track.

If that’s you, you owe it to yourself to give this a listen. Where their previous side long epic, Atom Heart Mother Suite, was bombastic but aimless, Echoes is atmospheric and absorbing. At times it’s a gently ambient soundscape, at others it locks into a propulsive groove but it always sounds like a supremely confident band. There’s no need for choirs, orchestration, bombast or bluster here. Warm and inviting, this is music to bask and luxuriate in.
