1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Pink Floyd Album

7. The Gold It’s In The… - Obscured By Clouds

What is it with Pink Floyd and French movies? This is the band’s second soundtrack to an obscure piece of French cinema. As such it’s a minor and often overlooked part of the band’s canon.

Despite this, it’s actually a real pleasure to dig out and listen to. Perhaps it’s because the band could view the recordings as a break between grand statements but the album has a more relaxed, laid back feel than their more ambitious records. It’s all beatific instrumentals and country tinged songs with bags of acoustic guitar.

The whole album also sounds like the band have been soaking up some sunny West Coast vibes. This is especially true of highlight The Gold It’s In The… It’s Pink Floyd’s stab at American stoner rock, complete with hippy sentiments.

They say there's gold but I'm looking for thrills./You can get your hands on whatever we find,/Because I'm only coming along for the ride.

They sound like some lost, forgotten, Byrds adjacent, country rockers and as the solo kicks in it’s enough to make you wish they’d done more of this sort of thing.
