1 Overlooked Gem Song From Every Pink Floyd Album

8. Eclipse - The Dark Side Of The Moon

The Dark Side Of The Moon is an iconic record and one whose music has pervaded the culture. Pink Floyd isn’t a band that gets played at office parties, wedding receptions or school discos and yet, you could sit down to listen having never heard the album before and come away surprised how many songs you recognise.

Whilst hardly obscure, closing track Eclipse is less well known than the likes of Us And Them, Money, The Great Gig In The Sky and others. It does however, provide a fitting finale to the album, especially in its final lyric. The lines, “And everything under the sun is in tune, but the sun is eclipsed by the moon” neatly sum up the album’s themes. The music is equally economical.

Not quite two minutes long, Eclipse feels lighter and poppier than some of the album’s grander moments, with a simple and repetitive but charming melody. More than anything else on the album it recalls the group’s early Syd Barrett led psychedelia.
