10 2000s Albums That Are A Lot Better Than You Remember

4. Songs About Jane - Maroon 5

Speaking as someone in 2021, it really feels like the rock world has wiped their hands of Maroon 5. Ever since the release of records like Overexposed, the Adam Levine Experience has seemed to be on full pop mode, with albums that feel like they serve more to cash a paycheck than actually be an artistic endeavor. There was a time...a long time ago though...where Maroon 5 was actually interesting.

During the early '00s, Songs About Jane was actually a pretty decent slice of pop rock, with Adam Levine showing a healthy dose of charisma as a rock star frontman. Though something like Harder to Breathe is probably the hardest you were ever going to see from this band, you can still hear that demented swagger seeping through, almost as if they were doing soul music by way of alt-rock.

There's also a reason why She Will Be Loved and This Love have been remember for as long as they have, being some of the most finely tuned attempts at pop rock that these guys ever produced. Once things started to blow up though, that's where the polish set in, which shined so bright that it took over the actual songs they were a part of. Still, it's better to have loved and lost than to have never had one at all.
