10 2000s Albums That Are Practically Flawless
9. Demon Days - Gorillaz
If you were around anytime during the early '00s, you wouldn't be surprised if something like Gorillaz fell flat on its face. Since this was started as just a way to make fun of the plastic part of MTV, how the hell were you going to make a band made up entirely of cartoons succeed in the long run? Well, turns out the answer is to work with Danger Mouse and not give a crap what anyone else thinks.
Structured as a long journey through the night, this is the first sign of Gorillaz's power as a creative unit, with Damon Albarn bringing in one guest star after another to flesh out the band's sound. Considering this is the guy who was known to be the frontman for Blur, the sounds are all over the place as well, going from acoustic folk to dance beats at the drop of a hat.
One minute you'll find yourself immersed in the club energy of DARE, and the next you'll be chilled to the bone after MF Doom takes you to task on the guest verse on November Has Come. No matter how much the songs stray from one another, you can still feel that Gorillaz personality seeping through though, often as zany and offputting as you remember. While the genre itself has stopped making sense in recent years, Demon Days still feels like the one album that is truly alternative music.
