10 2000s Albums That Are Practically Flawless
8. White Pony - Deftones
There are probably a good portion of metalheads who probably have a box of shame with all of their previous nu metal garb in it. When you look back on the era of angry white boy metal, the sounds of everything from Papa Roach to Kid Rock aren't necessarily holding up the same way Zeppelin has or anything. If you knew where to look though, White Pony isn't something that you should be ashamed of in the slightest.
Coming off of Around the Fur, Deftones seemed to finally figure out their true strengths with this album, bringing in Frank Delgado full time as a DJ and adding different soundscapes into their arsenal. What you get is songs that seem both heavy and ethereal at the same time, which hit you like a sledgehammer on songs like Change or Digital Bath.
The lyrics are definitely a trip too, with Chino Moreno working outside of his comfort zone and writing dark character pieces, from the violent scenario going on in Knife Party to making a night drive sound absolutely terrifying with Maynard James Keenan's guest verse on Passenger. Since a lot of '00s metal records have aged about as well as yogurt, this is the kind of fine wine that you shouldn't pass up whenever it comes up on a playlist.
