10 2010s Musicians Destined To Be One-Hit Wonders
4. Gotye & Kimbra
With a title all too literal, Gotye became Somebody That We Used To Know with his signature sole hit.
Featuring New Zealand singer Kimbra, the Australian has seemingly retired the Gotye name following the success of Somebody That I Used to Know. Gotye now performs with his band The Basics, his friends he performed with before his cult solo success.
Reaching number one on 26 national charts, this single from his third album became an unexpected smash.
Gotye turned down many opportunities to use his music in media, and also turned off adverts on his YouTube channel. Gotye chose to divert himself from further money, fame, and success. A well-respected introvert, authentic musician, and a gentle soul.
Unfortunately, Kimbra hasn’t managed to secure a second hit either. Cementing her status as an indie darling, even after the success of pop-starlet Lorde who is also from her country.
