5. Penn Badgley
Known amongst teen and twentysomething trashy television lovers as Dan "Lonely Boy" Humphrey from Gossip Girl, the man behind the blog-based soap opera couldn't be more different from his character. For starters, Penn Badgley seems to loathe the show (and character) that made him a star, often telling anyone who would listen that Dan Humphrey was an unrealistic douchebag, Gossip Girl was a joke of a show, and the finale was nonsensical garbage. Band: MOTHXR So it makes sense that Badgley is so enthused about his music project, electronic band MOTHXR. After years of playing a character he hated on a show he kinda detested, he's now the frontman for a band that makes no money, and he apparently prefers it that way. And despite the nature of MOTHXR (Brooklyn-based, "organically birthed," influenced by every sub-genre they know the name of), Badgley couldn't be less pretentious about it. When responding to interviewers who want to know whether he considers himself more of an actor or musician, he says this:
"I kind of hate using the word artist because I certainly wouldnt expect anyone to consider me as such at this point. I enjoy making all kids of different things and different creative projects."
