10 Adult Rock Songs That No One Understood As Kids
9. Digital Bath - Deftones
It's been a long running joke that over half of the lyric sheets of many a nu metal band has to do with whining and complaining about one thing or another. That's not even that inaccurate a depiction at that, considering that Korn and Limp Bizkit made their living off of some angsty sounding songs, albeit with very differing levels of tolerance between the two. Forget the "woe is me" mentality, Deftones have a far more exciting topic to deal with...MURDER.
Being the stand out track off of White Pony, Digital Bath almost has some sort of forbidden sexiness about it, as Chino Moreno starts talking about venturing into the bathroom for some nefarious habits with a girl. The whole production even seems to be sexualized as well, with the turntables giving an almost comfortable soundscape for the vocals to lay on top of.
A false sense of security it would seem, when you start to listen to Chino's lyrics about leading this girl into the bathtub so he can kill her via electrocution. By the time he starts to talk about her stopping breathing and drying her off, the tune itself seems to get ahold of the situation, putting you in a much more terrifying place than you were in the beginning. Even though Deftones were always nu metal adjacent, you'll probably never find this kind of demented story on a Staind track any time soon.
