10 Albums Every Hawkwind Fan Should Own

3. Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters

Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters And now the only album not by Hawkwind, released in 1974 Captain Lockheed and the Starfighters. Though given it is a Robert Calvert album with appearances by Dave Brock, Simon King, Nik Turner and Lemmy you could be forgiven for thinking it was. In fact this is a concept album formed of a set of tracks that alternate between narrative and songs. Vivian Stanshall does most of the voices and Arthur Brown also appears. I include this as I have found over the years people who don't call themselves Hawkwind fans still rate this and have it in their collections. There is much to love about this album but the stand-out rock tracks are The Right Stuff (which Matthew Wright wanted for his TV show) and Ejection both of which are firm crowd pleasers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXk9R_iVSVQ
