10 Albums Recorded In Bizarre Locations

4. The Trinity Session - The Cowboy Junkies

Alt country/folk rock band Cowboy Junkies formed in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, in the mid-80s. With Alan Anton (bass) alongside siblings Peter Timmins (drums), Margo Timmins (vocals) and Michael Timmins (guitar) the group often flesh out their sound with guest artists, notably multi-instrumentalist Jeff Bird. They have released albums in every decade since their 1986 debut, Whites Off Earth Now!!

For that album's follow-up, 1988's The Trinity Session, the band recorded inside The Church of the Holy Trinity, in Trinity Square, Toronto, with the players arranged in a circle around a single microphone. Built in 1847, the church was a gift to the city from Mary Lambert Swale, provided on the condition that the building be entirely open to the public.

Constructed in the Gothic Revival style, the building clearly inspired the band, who laid down a mixture of classic covers and original compositions. Nearly thirty years later, Cowboy Junkies returned to the Holy Trinity to record a new version of the album, Trinity Revisited, with assorted guest musicians.
