10 Albums That Killed Artists' Careers

7. Other Voices - The Doors

The lead singer role tends to be looked at as the essential sonic force in the band. Even if the person in question can't play a note on any instrument, the way they bring their point across to the audience can often be what makes or breaks bands in the spotlight. Not every band has to rely on the strength of their frontman's presence, but the Doors are definitely a band that fits that category.

Throughout the band's chaotic history, Jim Morrison was the lifesblood of the band, whose eccentric personality and poetic musings onstage excited fans around the world. Once Morrison was found dead after the band's comeback album LA Woman, many people rightfully thought that it would be the end of the Doors' career as well. As fate would have it though, the other band members started getting very bad ideas.

Just a few years after Morrison's passing, the band tried to bounce back with the album Other Voices, with organist Ray Manzarak taking over for Morrison on vocals. The band doesn't play poorly all things considered, but you can tell from listening to it that the magic of the band had faded along with Morrison. Other Voices is not an offensive album by any stretch, but after this boring collection of songs, one of the most interesting acts of the '60s seemed to have officially run out of gas.
