10 Albums That Killed Artists' Careers
3. Just Push Play - Aerosmith
Aerosmith have gone through plenty of changes ever since they came on the scene in the '70s. Originally being pegged as copycats of the British Invasion, the band found their edge on albums like Rocks but quickly faded from view due to drug problems. Though it was awesome to seem them rise again in the '80s, things started to take a more stylized direction.
As the band went on to make albums like Get a Grip, you could hear them going more towards pop music than rock and roll, which culminated in the #1 single "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing." These songs usually just felt like something the guys needed to get out of their system, but Just Push Play was where they reached the point of no return.
Instead of having a handful of pop tunes amid the rockers, this album was the band diving head first into pop music, with songs that had a certain polish that drove fans up the wall. The album was far from bad, but when you place a song like "Jaded" next to "Sweet Emotion," it's almost impossible to believe the songs are from the same band. Just Push Play has its fair share of high points, but this is where Aerosmith lost all their goodwill in the minds of their rock fanbase.
