10 Albums That Killed Artists' Careers
2. Be Here Now - Oasis
If you were into any kind of rock music in the late '90s, Oasis probably showed up somewhere in your record collection. The band's solid one-two punch Definitely Maybe and What's the Story Morning Glory weren't just great albums, but put the band at the top of rock heap with some of the biggest shows in rock history. However, you never think of going down when you're at the top of the world.
When the band ventured into the studio again, the end result Be Here Now ended up being one of the more spotty releases ever to come from a mainstream band. Rather than the tight songs that evoked both the Sex Pistols and the Beatles, these lengthy cuts dragged the listener on for 7 to 9 minutes at a time, all leading to nothing in the end.
Though the album is far from Oasis' crowning achievement, the band initially received rave reviews for their 3rd effort, with many critics lauding it as their creative pinnacle. As time went on though, people began to understand just what they were hearing, with even Noel Gallagher not being pleased with the final product. With the original lineup of the band fracturing at this point, Be Here Now is the sound of the Gallagher Brothers with stars in their eyes, waiting for a miracle that isn't going to come.
