10 Albums We Waited An Eternity To Get
4. The Weirdness - The Stooges
Wait: 34 Years
The entire world of hard rock music owe Iggy and the Stooges a debt of gratitude. When the rest of the rock scene was still getting over their blues tendencies, this street gang from Detroit took everything primal about rock and roll and concentrated it into one glorious ball of noise. They seemed to have the hard rock world at their feet, but a band formed on a chaotic foundation is bound to unravel sooner or later.
After the release of their essential masterpiece Raw Power, the band splintered with Iggy Pop going on to a successful solo career. While many bands influenced by the Stooges went on to form the genres of punk and metal, many fans wondered if we would ever see the Stooges in their original incarnation again. Shocking the entire music scene, the Stooges reformed in the early '00s and gave us The Weirdness, which had mixed results at best.
Compared to the visceral sound of the band's earlier work, this record feels like listening to a band that has been out of commission for decades, with lethargic songwriting and noise for the sake of noise. The Stooges have earned their place in rock history, but this album proves that pedigree alone doesn't result in good music.
