10 Albums We Waited An Eternity To Get
5. Black Gives Way To Blue - Alice in Chains
Wait: 14 Years
As the 2000s turned a corner, the idea of getting anything more from Alice in Chains seemed pretty futile. With the band being on hiatus and Layne Staley falling apart due to drug problems, the dark grunge band that we once knew seemed to be fading away. When Staley was sadly found dead in his apartment in 2002, any idea of new material from these guys seemed to die along with him.
Then again, people love when a band resurrects itself. After years of partaking in tribute shows, guitarist Jerry Cantrell became enthralled with vocalist William DuVall, whose singing matched with Cantrell's dark register perfectly. Coming together after over a decade, Alice in Chains were out in full force once again. After a few dates to get themselves acclimated with the fanbase, the band went into the studio and created Black Gives Way to Blue in 2009, their first collection of original output since 1995.
Even with all the torment surrounding the band during the early '00s, Cantrell never lost his touch for creating some of the most melodic hymns of doom the world had ever seen, from the brooding "Your Decision" to the opening stomper "All Secrets Known." It may have been a long road to recovery, but this new Alice did the impossible with one of the greatest comebacks in metal history.
