10 Amazing Albums That Will Make You Love Pop Punk Music

8. Ocean Avenue - Yellowcard

Let it be known that pop punk was about more than just whining all the time. In between all of the sad sack punks talking about how much of a bummer it was to be dumped, there were just as many willing to write about something that was a little more close to the bone. While we'll be getting to the heavy stuff later on in this list, Ocean Avenue still has most of its lyric sheet tattooed across the minds of '00s kids.

Even though Yellowcard gets the reputation as an also-ran kind of band alongside acts like New Found Glory, what we have here is some of the most adult leaning lyrics of any of their counterparts. These songs might still be about your standard relationship drama that comes in your teenage years, but you can hear them trying to work things out in a much more mature way than just whining about it.

When you listen to the story going on in the title track, this isn't just a breakup that ends in a bunch of tears and heartache. This is just people growing apart and hoping to spend at least one more night together before the rest of the world closes in around them. If you took out the snotty delivery and replaced the violin hook with something like a saxophone, this is the kind of rock song that someone like Springsteen would have been happy to sing.
