10 Amazing Albums That Will Make You Love Pop Punk Music

9. Ramones - Ramones

There's probably a good few of my fellow millennials scratching their head as to why an album like this even qualifies for a pop punk list. The Ramones have been legends of the punk scene for ages, but most of their stuff fits squarely on the pure punk side of the spectrum, right? At the time of its release, you would be correct, but have you listened to this record at all lately?

Going back through the Ramones' debut, half of this record is pure pop music brought to its most ferocious conclusion. When listening through Blitzkrieg Bop, this is basically a three chord pop song, only given that extra shot of adrenaline thanks to Johnny Ramone's solid right hand. Even when they get to more hard edged songs like Loudmouth or Chain Saw, you can hear Joey's love for the rock music of the '60s, back when it was just pop music with guitars as the lead instrument.

And are we going to just forget I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend, which may be the single most bubblegum pop song that the Ramones would ever create? Yeah, it's no surprise that Blink-182 and Green Day cited these guys as a main influence. Practically half of the pop punk bands that have come and gone in the past decade have just been copying their schtick and making it a little more poppy.
