10 Amazing Artists That Only Have One Album
2. Lauryn Hill
The world of hip hop in the late '90s didn't always have to revolve around the gangstas. Even in the days when Snoop Dogg and Tupac were some of the biggest faces on the charts, bands like the Fugees were coming together with something a lot more pop friendly, with Wyclef Jean and Lauryn Hill becoming some of the biggest stars in the world. Though The Fugees may have only made it to two albums, Lauryn Hill made her presence known by giving us an education.
While the bitter breakup of the group would have given anyone bad vibes, you wouldn't know it for listening to the Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. Throughout the entire record, you can hear Lauryn having an entirely new lease on life, approaching topics like love and understanding together with some of the stickiest hooks in the world. This isn't a hippy record though, and Lauryn is ready to go every time she spits a verse, coming off as effortlessly badass whenever she steps up to the mic.
Hip hop certainly hasn't forgotten this record either, becoming one of the most sampled records of all time, like Ex Factor being used as the backdrop for Drake's Nice For What and Kanye flipping Doo Wop That Thing on Donda. It would come at a price though, with Lauryn getting more and more unhinged as the years go by and most of her musical presence being limited to guest verses. While she might be off the rails from time to time these days, this is the kind of record where Lauryn feels the most at peace.
