10 Amazing Artists With Terrible Debut Albums
1. Radiohead - Pablo Honey (1993)
Despite containing their most popular song of all time, Creep, Pablo Honey was an unfortunate false start for Radiohead. Released in 1993, Pablo Honey mainly falls down as an album purely from lack of experience working in a recording studio, as Radiohead struggled to record solid versions of their songs in the at the time new environment of the studio.
The songs also lacked the cohesion that future Radiohead works such as 1997's OK Computer would hold, and were just a collection of the band's tracks rather than a deliberate attempt to create an album with a unifying theme. Upon release in February 1993, Pablo Honey received mixed to average reviews, although reviewers could see the band had potential.
The following tour to support the album around the world was also a huge disappointment for Radiohead, as after extensive interviews and promotion, the band began to question why they even started creating music in the first place. Luckily for fans and record buyers, Radiohead hit out out of the park with their next album, 1994's The Bends, which placed them at the forefront of experimental rock music and popular culture.
