10 Amazing Bouncebacks In Rock History

9. Back In Black - AC/DC

After a few long years, it seemed that luck was starting to turn around for AC/DC. Being a favorite in their native Australia, albums like Powerage and Highway to Hell seemed to really capture the attention of the rock mainstream, with Bon Scott's voice meshing perfectly with Angus Young's guitar leads. While these Aussies decided to strike when the iron was hot, their lead singer ended up dancing a bit too close to the flame.

Going out on a drinking bender one night to loosen up before going into the studio, Bon Scott fell asleep in a friend's car the next morning only to be found dead later that day of alcohol poisoning. Even though the rest of the group had grown accustomed to Bon's antics at the time, this was a crushing blow that they weren't going to get over any time soon.

Once everyone regrouped back home to bury their friend, The Young Brothers decided to drop their long faces and plow ahead, figuring that Bon would want it that way. Drafting a relative unknown in Brian Johnson, everyone went into the studio and struck gold, with Back in Black becoming both a worthy tribute to their previous singer and one of the best-selling rock and roll albums in history. Through sheer will alone, AC/DC had crafted a masterpiece that proved that rock and roll can outlast even mortality.
