10 Amazing Cover Songs You Need To Hear

2. Turisas - Rasputin

Boney M's Rasputin is a very silly song. It's a cult classic disco tune about the erotic adventures and subsequent murder of Russian mystic and ladies' man Grigori Rasputin. You know, the bloke who had to get poisoned and shot and dumped in a river before he could die, it's a disco tune about that guy. It wouldn't seem there was any way someone could make this song any sillier, but you'd be wrong.

Finnish folk metal band Turisas took the rather offbeat track and turned it into an epic heavy metal stomp with equally baffling music video. Seriously, there's no narrative here; just a Viking, a mob boss, women in bikinis, face paint, accordions just a list of words that make no sense next to each other, like peanut butter paint. Nothing improves a disco classic like a heavier cover, as any of the 300 pop-punk bands who have covered I Will Survive will tell you. The subject matter even fits with Turisas better than with disco, there's something otherworldly about the track: this almost mystical feel works brilliantly when singing about 'Russia's greatest love machine.'
