10 Amazing Covers By Music Artists You Didn't Expect
8. Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High? - Miley Cyrus
The continued success of Sheffield-based indie outfit, Arctic Monkeys, is testament to the quality of their releases, even though they often feel largely different from one another.
The imperfect, rough-around-the-edges, yet utterly glorious first album, Everything You Say I Am, That's What I'm Not, is significantly different from 2009's Humbug, which is all together a different vibe to Tranquillity Base Hotel & Casino.
Arctic Monkey's fifth album, AM, is perhaps the most beloved of their impressive discography, as it is littered with iconic tunes, from the sharp 'Arabella', to the immensely listenable, yet impressively moody 'Do I Wanna Know?'.
Towards the back half of the album is a tune that was covered by pop sensation, Miley Cyrus, and felt instantly natural with her sassy, attitude-driven voice. 'Why'd You Only Call Me When You're High?' is a slow, but funky tune, with a memorable bass melody that is partnered with a litany of percussion flourishes once the chorus kicks in.
Cyrus brings something new to the song, while desperately clinging onto the components that make it great to begin with. It's a song that simply fits her vocal range, and image, fusing together to create a cover that works wonders.
