10 Amazing Covers By Music Artists You Didn't Expect

9. In Bloom - Sturgill Simpson

There aren't many that would expect a Kentucky-raised country singer to cover a pacific northwest grunge band, but Sturgill Simpson brings his own flavour to this iconic Nirvana track.

While Nirvana are usually the ones to release exceptional covers, with the likes of Bowie's 'The Man Who Sold The World', or The Velvet Underground's 'Here She Comes Now' littering the band's resume, that's not to say their hit singles can't be given a whole new flavour by someone else.

Sturgill Simpson is known for his outspoken nature, and exceptional artistry, as the alt-country singer has released five original albums that each have a place in the conversation for some of the best releases of the century in the genre.

Neatly placed in the middle of Simpson's third album, A Sailor's Guide to Earth, is a cover of Nirvana's 'In Bloom', which offers a more relaxed, pretty, and plodding take on a tune that is so beloved for its sharp guitars, and raspy vocals.

Sturgill Simpson's fresh take on the seasoned song is different enough to feel wholly unique, and as such it absolutely has a place alongside the Nirvana original.
