10 Amazing Covers By Music Artists You Didn't Expect
2. Misery Business - Machine Gun Kelly
To those who grew up in the mid-late 2000s, there are a handful of songs that are fondly remembered for their angsty tunes and scathing lyrics. From Blink 182's entire discography, to Sum 41's 'In Too Deep', the attitude that such songs offered was enough to disappoint parents across the globe.
One such tune is the universally loved 'Misery Business' by Paramore, a Tennessee-born pop punk band that's fronted by rock icon Hayley Williams. It's reminiscent of a time, and few would have expected it to be relevant in 2020 when it was covered by hip-hop artist Machine Gun Kelly.
His rise as Pop Punk's newest poster boy started long before the release of 2022's Mainstream Sellout. MGK's take on Misery Business doesn't alter the formula too much, but the subdued vocals that are layered with a familiar, riffy melody drag the song from its 2007 beginnings into the modern day brilliantly.
Just two years prior Machine Gun Kelly was locking horns with Eminem, releasing diss track 'Rap Devil' that's remarkably different from his current work. The cover of Paramore's classic confirms that, like him or not, MGK has immense range.
