5. Stockholm Syndrome Interlude - Blink-182
For Blink-182's short songs, there's a 50/50 percent chance that it's going to be played for jokes. These guys have been notorious for their juvenile sense of humor, and their album California even ends with the line 'there's something about you that I can't quite put my finger in.' This isn't necessarily Shakespeare or anything, but 2003 saw them get a lot more serious on Stockholm Syndrome.
When you go back and listen to the self titled record, Blink were looking to reinvent their sound from the ground up, bringing in a lot more '80s influences and songs that dealt with love on a much more visceral level. Though Stockholm Syndrome is a lot more about the kind of paranoia that comes with depending on someone, the interlude before the song starts is probably one of the more heartfelt things that Blink would ever put on record, being a recitation of a love letter that one of their grandparents sent to their wife while they were fighting in World War II.
Considering that this goes right into the song afterward, it's almost like you're seeing both sides of love being analyzed right next to each other. First you have to deal with being completely enamored with your lover, and then you have to wonder what's going to happen once you find yourself having to pick up the pieces once they've gone away. Not bad for a few guys who just a few albums ago were writing about an ex's boyfriend getting diahrrea.
