10 Amazing Musicians We Lost In The 2010s

3. George Martin (1926-2016)

George Martin may be the single most underrated figure in the music industry. The man is often referred to as the "fifth Beatle," and rightfully so. Martin served as the Fab Four's producer for most of the band's tenure. His production style was unprecedented, like when he combined two different versions of "Strawberry Fields Forever" to create the version we hear today.

Martin also left his stamp on the Beatles' work with his musical knowledge. Being classically trained, Martin scored much of the orchestrations behind the Beatles hits such as "Eleanor Rigby" and "I Am The Walrus." While Lennon and McCartney wrote a fair portion of hits, George Martin's arranging prowess helped refine the Beatles' material into a pop-tastic package.

Martin then went on to create various film scores to the Beatles' movies like Help along with working with other rock bands like Cheap Trick later on down the road. But his greatest achievement had to have been his work in making some of the best records of the 1960's. While the Beatles wrote truly mind-bending music, George Martin took that music and turned it into something transcendent.
