10 Amazing Musicians We Lost In The 2010s
2. Lemmy (1945-2015)
The one and only Lemmy Kilmister was the snarling frontman of the hard rock band Motorhead. Across various lineups spanning 3 decades, Lemmy helped to invent metal music's characteristics one record at a time.
On one hand, he possessed the growly voice that became the norm for metal frontmen like James Hetfield. On the other hand, he turned the amps up...all the way. The ear-splitting volume of each Motorhead gig became a precursor to metal's abrasive and borderline-obnoxious use of loud volume. Lemmy juggled all of this while living the hard partying rock n' roll lifestyle to the max every day.
Metal to a tee...and yet Lemmy never thought of himself as a metalhead. He fashioned himself to be a rock and roll band that happened to play really loud. Unbeknownst to him, he seemed to have created an entire subculture of metal fans around his signature style and aura. In an age when the rock stars of old tended to slow down with age, Lemmy remained consistent until the end as the most ROCK N' ROLL musician to ever grace the stage.
