10 Amazing Rock Albums We Never Got To Hear

4. Mustaine Em All - Metallica

Looking back on it now, it's almost stupid seeing Dave Mustaine getting booted out of Metallica. Since every single one of the thrash metal legends were a pack of drunks, why the hell would you kick someone out for having a drinking problem? Though Mustaine ended up forming the skeleton of Megadeth shortly afterward, Metallica weren't done with the riffs that he left behind.

Across Kill Em All, almost every other song is credited to Mustaine, whose riffs became a massive part of Metallica's sound. Drafting in Kirk Hammett shortly afterward, Kirk himself has said that he had a hard time settling into the groove at the beginning, with most of his solos being almost incoherent in some spots. While things may have worked out for the best, there's always the lingering question of whether Dave deserved a second chance.

After all, Mustaine already still had the chops to pull off the Metallica tunes, with him writing the main riffs of Jump in the Fire, The Four Horsemen, and even the chugging breakdown of Phantom Lord. Given that Hammett was just filling a slot at this point, it would have been interesting to hear these songs in their initial form, with Dave shredding the solos that he himself wrote. Though we do have "sister" songs in Hangar 18 and the Call of Ktulu now, just imagine if they were combined to create one of the greatest tracks metal had ever seen.
