10 Amazing Rock Cover Songs You Haven't Heard Before
2. Clutch - Fortunate Son (Creedence Clearwater Revival)
Since their formation in 1991, Clutch have never lost or replaced a member of the original line-up, a truly rare achievement in today's music climate. Of course, Creedence Clearwater Revival also never replaced an original member, but they were together for 24 years fewer than Clutch have been so far.
Creedence Clearwater Revival are sometimes seen as pioneers, even founding fathers of southern rock, and their influence was marked by a number of flagship, timeless tunes. One of these was 'Fortunate Son', which they released in 1969 as part of the oddly named album, 'Willy and the Poor Boys'.
Throughout their near 30 year career, Clutch have experimented with a number of intriguing and innovative sounds, but have generally centred themselves around the heavier possibilities of blues rock. Clutch launched themselves to incredible reaches of fame in 2007 thanks to their single, 'Electric Worry', and have continued the momentum ever since through a catalogue of great records, including names such as 'Earth Rocker' and 'Psychic Warfare'.
Releasing their cover in November 2019 to celebrate 50 years of 'Fortunate Son', the grizzled blues rock titans blew their fans away with a raucous, riveting and rowdy take on this classic southern rock number. Clutch's latest album, 'Book of Bad Decisions', was released in September 2018.
