10 Amazing Rock Songs By Pop Artists
7. Good 4 U - Olivia Rodrigo
For the past few years, it looks like the next decade is going to belong to Olivia Rodrigo. Say what you want to about her being a Disney star and a manufactured product, but a record like Sour shows a girl who has a lot of potential to become a breakout star in the next few years. And while people have been screaming plagiarism at a song like 'Good 4 U,' are we just going to ignore that it's a phenomenal song on its own?
Getting the harsh stuff out of the way first, yes this does share more than a few passing similarities to Paramore's Misery Business, down to the fact that the chorus almost feels like the same melody. What sets them apart though is tone, and Olivia sounds absolutely pissed for a girl who just got her heart broken.
Whereas Hayley may have had the same type of rage in the Paramore classic, what makes this version of the song work so well comes from just how salty it is. It's really all there in the title, with Olivia talking about how her ex is doing well for himself and maybe having some pent up aggression at how well things might really be going behind the scenes. Sure, it could be considered a rip off at times, but any Disney star that's able to step to Paramore and actually pull it off warrants some kind of praise.
